Friday Challenge #14 TRUTH: What do you waste in your life and how can you waste it less? DARE: Slow down... and post a video of yourself in slow motion.
I'd like to invite you to continue this conversation by posting all the things you DON'T waste!
Call me over the top, but I try not to waste anything. I am proud to say that between the two of us, John and I produce about one plastic grocery bag's worth of garbage per week...
Here is my list: 1. Compost - turn all food waste into fertilizer rather than mixing it with non-biodegradable waste in landfills which contributes to the problem of methane gasses in the atmosphere. 2. Reuse - glass jars, empty containers, and even bags from bread, tortillas, sun-dried tomatoes, etc... (instead of buying plastic Tupperware and Ziploc baggies). They are included for free! All we have to do is wash them. Stop thinking of plastics as one time use.... use them till they break. 3. Buy in bulk/ Buy whole ingredients and cook things from scratch! (fresh tomatoes rather than canned, dried beans in a bag rather than a tin of beans, oranges to squeeze freshly rather than a bottle of o.j. etc...) 4. Avoid purchasing products with loads of packaging. 5. Save non-recyclable waxed boxes, cut them up, and make art on the inside blank canvas 6. Save bottle caps, tops, corks, etc... they are excellent fillers for noise makers - a fun project to make music from "nothing" 7. If you find you have a fridge full of left overs or bits and pieces, call it a "melange" and make a meal out of it! 8. Do the freezer clear-out week... eat or plan meals around what you have frozen in the freezer. 9. Can't believe I almost forgot this one, but Get a glass bottle or tumbler cup and refill it. Please don't buy a case of those 6 oz. bottles of water. How much petroleum and processing goes into each one of those??!?! And then we just toss them. 10. Grow your own food! or as much of it as you can... even if it's just a basil plant that you can dry the leaves from to save for winter.
And that's just the kitchen....
Let's get positive and help each other become more aware!
I've preached on enough. If you're still reading, bless you, and please do share what things you DON'T waste.
xoxo
